New Administrative Centre in Braaschaat

In the New Administrative Centre in Braaschaat pruning waste from the municipality is used to heat the town hall.

A district-level approach, rather than one focusing on individual buildings, makes it possible to tackle the energy transition based on a broader and locally integrated vision. Every form of renewable energy is highly dependent on location, in this case the large-scale availability of biomass. The park municipality is home to circa 40,000 trees that line its avenues, of which, in accordance with the management plan, around six hundred trees are replaced each year. What's more, there is a plan to use the biomass plant at the district level as part of the heat grid in the context of the larger development plan ‘de Kaart’ (2020-2024), including the construction of two schools and ninety residential units.

Tree management in Brasschaat in the spotlight
From now on, in Brasschaat pruning waste from trees or those that are diseased will serve as biomass to heat the New Administrative Centre using biogas.

Designing a management plan for the many trees in Brasschaat ensures that the maintenance and corresponding costs of the trees lining its avenues is more efficient. It means the town hall can eventually be supplied with local biogas.
